It’s an excellent cold chocolate dessert that’s easy to make and requires just a few simple ingredients. Whether you’re looking for cold treats to make at home or a luxurious alternative to traditional ice cream, this recipe won’t disappoint.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 oz dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), finely chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp espresso powder (optional, enhances the chocolate flavor)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Base
In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and cocoa powder over medium heat. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
Step 2: Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the finely chopped dark chocolate. Stir until fully melted and smooth.
Step 3: Add Flavor Enhancements
Mix in the vanilla extract, salt, and espresso powder (if using). Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
Step 4: Chill the Mixture
Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best texture.
Step 5: Churn and Freeze
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow dish and stir every 30 minutes until smooth and frozen.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Once frozen, scoop and serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the freezer. For an added twist, drizzle with a chocolate hard shell for a crunchy contrast.
